Good afternoon everyone,
While I was in Madeira I was lucky enough to go visit, Blandys Wine Lodge.
This lovely lodge was acquired in 1840 by Charles Ridpath, it is located in the centre of funchal! It was about 10 minutes away from my hotel so I couldn’t complain! Blandy’s lodge guides you through the history of Madeira wine, where they started, its development and how they make some of best wine I have ever had the chance to try!
As we arrived we realised we were actually early for the tour.. We had about 30 minutes to explore the area before going in, which actually worked in our favour as there was so much too see! Before I knew it time was up, the tour was ready to begin, we had such a lovely tour guide, and she was pretty cute so that was even better! She took us round all the rooms, explaining how the wine is made, the vast history behind it and why its the best wine you will ever try ;p
What was really cool that I didn’t know is that the wine is stored in attics not cellars, and is aged vertically not horizontally, maybe thats why there wine tastes so amazing!
After you have learnt all the history behind their wine, you finish the tour on a great note, by trying two types of their wine, I loved their wine so much I ended up buying a bottle, I just couldn’t help myself it tasted too good!
I may have to just go back to Madeira so I can get some more of their wine, and check out Blandy’s Wine Lodge again.
If you are ever in Madeira, I definitely recommend going to the Blandy’s Wine Lodge on your outings, a great day out and you get some tasty wine at the end of it, could you ask for much more!
