Does an apple a day keep the doctor away?
No, but yes? let me explain!
I eat a lot of fruit, always have! I will always try new fruits and make sure I eat some type of fruit every day. But definitely up there with my favourite fruits are apples. Now we have all heard the saying ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ But does it… I decided to do a little research into finding out if this was true or not.
Medical News Today MNT did a three studies with different people to see if they were to eat an apple away did it keep them away from the doctors, all tests came up negative. Naturally at some point or another your immune system can become weak and you can become ill, even with the vitamin boost from the apple. However, the studies did show something interesting. With the tests done, if the individual was generally pretty healthy, and stopped the fruit all together for substitutes like fruit drinks then they had more of a chance of becoming ill. Compared to the non apple eaters.
Therefore, was there a truth behind this old witch tale? Well with the results of the tests the main outcome was that the individuals that ate an apple every day did prove to have an vitamin boost which kept them away from pharmaceutical goods. So maybe the saying should be ‘An apple a day keeps the pharmaceutical goods away’ ahah!
However, I think there is also a psychological aspect here, like a placebo effect, we believe that by eating the apple it will keep the doctor away, so we naturally believe we are healthier! But either way that isn’t going to stop me eating them, they taste to good!
